Book Review 1: Wicked Thing by Angeline Kace

Title: Wicked ThingWicked Thing Cover
Author: Angeline Kace
Release Date: September 22, 2013

Carmyn Rafferty witnessed the aftermath of her mother’s affair. She learned at a young age not to trust anyone. Especially not your spouse. So she’s planned. She’s planned every detail of her life: who her husband will be, what their careers will be, what their lives will be like. All to avoid the pain of infidelity.

Dallas Brown lives according to his own terms. He doesn’t do relationships, he doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, and he doesn’t live up to anyone’s expectations.

When Carmyn’s fiancé cheats on her, it sends her into a whirlwind of one-night stands with the most infamous player on campus. She can’t seem to stay away from this tough guy and his dangerous motorcycle. Everything about him is the complete opposite of who she’d planned to fall in love with: tattoos, dark stubble along his jawline, and hair that brushes his shoulders.

As Dallas and Carmyn begin to fall deeper and deeper into each other, they learn that love can truly be a wicked, wicked thing.

Rating: 4.5/5
Review: I thought Angeline Kace did a very good job of reasoning why Carmyn and Dallas shouldn’t be together. Both passed through tough experiences that changed their lives irrevocably so they go on with self-preservation as their number one goal. Neither want to be hurt again but, when they meet, their defenses crumble little by little. They can’t stay away from each other despite the little doubts that pop in their minds once in a while.

Angeline Kace’s writing style expresses Dallas and Carmyn’s voices distinctly, and it was very easy to move from one chapter to the next. I liked how their vulnerabilities unfold as their romance develops. They have real people problems that make their story very relatable.

The story ends very fittingly though there are some loose ends left that I would like to see tied up and resolved in a second book.

Disclaimer: I received an eGalley of this book from the author/publisher for an honest review.
