Book Review 6: Midnight Action (Killer Instincts 5) by Elle Kennedy

Midnight ActionTitle: Midnight Action
Author: Elle Kennedy
Release Date: November 4, 2014

She’s got a broken heart…

and a fully loaded arsenal…

Ex–army ranger Jim Morgan leads a team of elite mercenaries, but eighteen years ago in Paris, he was part of a black ops unit whose mission was to hunt down a rogue operative. In order to trap the criminal, Jim seduced Noelle, the man’s daughter—a ruthless act that cost him the love of his life and turned her into a mortal enemy. Now he can’t trust her, but he still desires her. He also needs her help….

Older, wiser, and unwilling to play the fool again, Noelle runs a group of highly skilled assassins. And she’s just been offered the hit of the century: Eliminate Jim Morgan. History gives them no reason to trust each other, but with their lives in jeopardy at the hands of a common enemy, the lines between love and hate are soon blurred. Now Noelle and Jim must face the past if they want to have a future—let alone a future together.

Rating: 5/5
Review: I got a glimpse of Jim and Noelle in Midnight Rescue (Killer Instincts 1) and was instantly hooked on the pair. I started looking forward to their scenes in each of the Killer Instincts books because the two are quite the scene stealers with their snarky interactions. By the end of After Midnight (Killer Instincts 4.5), I just couldn’t wait to find out the couple’s history and waited with much impatience

It was a relief that neither Jim nor Noelle saw the need to shoot the other though they were very capable, and the urge was very great. Yeah, those two really have it bad.

I’m very pleased to say that Elle Kennedy did not disappoint with Jim and Noelle’s story. The history she created for the couple was complicated enough that picking sides (Who’s right? Who’s wrong?) was impossible. She made Jim and Noelle human instead of the fearless leaders that their teams perceive them to be.

As for the other parts of the novel, there’s the story of Bailey and Sean Reilly (next book Midnight Captive!!!). I can’t wait to read how things will turn out for those two. And there’s Sully and Liam. Sully and Liam’s story is proving to be interesting. Perhaps Elle Kennedy will write further about the two of them just to iron out their issues.

I’m so glad that Elle Kennedy wrote Midnight Action the way she did because it answered all of my questions about Jim and Noelle, and the ending was very fitting for the pair. Oh, and watch out for that bombshell (I’m not telling.)

This was such a great book, right? Noelle and Jim really deserved their happily-ever-after! 🙂
