Release Date: November 18, 2014

Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own. The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear. At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream…

Review: I have been waiting for what seemed like ages for this book and, when I got my hands on a copy, I just couldn’t put it down. The first three books built up the relationship of Gideon and Eva from Eva’s point of view so it was quite one-sided. I kept wondering when Gideon would get his turn to explain himself, and he got to in “Captivated By You.”

The book opens with Gideon and Eva fresh from their elopement. The happily-ever-after didn’t manifest for these two as problems just rained down on them. Their marriage gets tested every step of the way, forcing them to confront each other’s personal issues that they weren’t ready to face just yet. The confrontation is much harder for Gideon because he keeps things to himself despite Eva’s constant urging to open up to her – or to their therapist at least. He takes things too far and ends up almost losing Eva who is the only one who keeps him going. Despite his spectacular f**k ups, I couldn’t help still rooting for him because, hey, he’s just trying to keep Eva from getting hurt again.

Sylvia Day could have written a typical kiss-and-make-up ending but it wouldn’t have gone well with the tone she had set for Gideon and Eva’s relationship. The book was one huge emotional roller coaster ride that had me expecting the worst for the couple but in the end, they sort things out the Gideon and Eva way (Yes, they’ve still got it even though they’re married).

For me, “Captivated By You” is the best book of the series so far. I am already looking forward to the fifth book “One With You.”
